The ERHS Raiders Swim Team took their successful Prince George's county championship, their 3A4A South Regionals Championship to the University of Maryland today to compete in the State Swimming Championship. The Raiders took it on the chin with a final tally of 16th place for the Girls and 25th for the Boys. They did, however, defeat Bowie, Laurel and the two Calvert County team that opposed them at Regionals.
It was clear from the start that this was going to be a fast meet, with first time Montgomery County participants, most State records were broken today for the Boys and the Girls records were also broken at break-neck speed. A total of 17 events saw records updated, all by Montgomery County teams. It seems we have a long way to go to be competitive with them.
More later, but our highest finisher was Jennifer Clune, who finished 4th in the 100 yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:09.01. Congrats, Jennifer, we are mighty proud of you! AND, Daniel Chavez eclipsed his SCHOOL RECORD in the butterfly today with a time of 55.77. Great swim, Daniel!

The 2011-2012 edition of the ERHS Raiders Swim Team has looked like something special since the beginning of practice back in November, and it's come true. Both the Boys and the Girls won the prestigious 3A4A MD State South Regionals against some pretty good competition from Prince George's and Calvert Counties. The boys won by four points, but never gave up in their quest to repeat as Region Champs, The girls simply ran away with the title before the meet was half over, as was typical for them all year.
